You are correct in that it all depends upon the "House Rules" which no one really knows until the SHTF.

When I first learned pinochle back in the late 50's, the house rules was you had to meld all your meld or it was a renege and if proven, a set.

The person who taught me was so good he could remember every card played and if you did not see a particular marriage and or a pinochle, I'll assure you he would call a renege for not melding the marriage.

That is why I asked the question what would you meld and how would you play the hand listed. Personally, my first two plays would be the 2 aces of trump, if the other two aces were caught, then I would play all my trump, then my two short suits, and then the double ace of diamonds.

If the house rules were not specific on melding all trump, then I would not meld the tripple jack of diamonds and therefore not declaring the tripple pinochle.

Once you declare the tripple pinochle, someone should be looking at your hand and making dam sure he did not discard any diamond tricks and hopefully prevent a pinochle.

If you do not declare the tripple pinochle (45 points) the only thing your opponents know is you have a double run and double aces, and dont have a clue as to what to hold and what to toss out.

In addition, if you played your short suit first, someone other then your partner may cut and POW, there goes your potential boston.

Think Boston on every hand and you will be surprised at how many Bostons you can pull.

According to Larry's rules, you must declare all meld including doubt aces, pinochle, marriages, and or kings, and queens.

Perhaps the definition of Meld would re-inforce my thinking. Meld: The true strength of your hand. So if in this case with 3 jacks of diamonds, if you should 3 jacks of diamonds, that tells the opponents that you are weak in diamonds and to hold your diamond suits to try and prevent a Boston.

Same as a double marriage of an off suit, if you show 4 losers in an off suit, you can normally assume they are either the bidders back up suit and or losers.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the question and your inputs.

: you have to meld aces, otherwise it's renege, you dont hafta show all,in this case...a thousand aces.

: am taking the hand period!....ofcoz,would play my "hanging " aces first....then kick out in "longest suit,if i "feel" pard is the chopper i'll keep pushing, otherwise i'd go top bottom.

: : Did you see the pinochle hand that stkathy had on her tournament page? If so how much meld would you have in real life, how much meld would you show or put down, how would you play the hand.

: : in case you missed it, the hand included double aces, a double run in spades with an extra queen, plus 3 jack of diamonds.

: : If you did not meld all of your meld would you consider that a renege?
