: I come here not as a TDManager but as one of the oldtimer yback members...

:
: Yesterday, John (merlin the wizard 1) passed away. He was a staple in this ladder many moons ago -- and at one time gave a great deal of energy and dedication to making this ladder great. His tourneys were always fun and crowded ~ but even before that when he was just a player -- he was here consistantly -- from time to time, taunting some of us with his ego and claims to expert bg playing :D

: I know that he has butted heads with some players from yback -- but I also know that many of you have loved him and respected him along the way..

: Now, in this sad time of his passing, I hope that you all will take time to remember his poor daughter Heidi and all the friends he left behind when you pray to your god. And remember the fun times and all the good things that he did to enrich bg at yahoo.

:
: John will surely be missed by many...

I am truly saddened by the passing of Merlin. I have had the pleasure of meeting many of the more visible players in this league over the years. I was traveling for work and had a days plans change which left me far from home and playing and hosting BG tournies from my hotel room midday. John popped on and saw that I was hosting at an unusual time for me. He asked why and we soon found that I was about 15 minutes from where he was. We chatted and decided to grab a late lunch/early dinner and I must say that John and I hit it off just fine. His larger than life persona (at least for online characters) 1st came to my attention the very 1st night I played a BG tourney at yback. I was dq'ed by an idiot of a TD (name long forgotten) and John pleaded my case to let me play on. We bumped into each other quite often and have an alias still attached to my playing id called merwin_the_lizard_1 and used it to poke fun with him when he left us at yback. I will remember him as a fine player, a unique character. I wasnt aware of his family but know he will be sorely missed by them as well. I always kept him on my pager and we chatted often (not often enough) over the years.
Mike
