Hello Peg,

IPlay's gin is different from other sites you may have played at. It is much closer to playing with real cards. For example, when you knock, you have to manually meld your hand (as well as layoff points if your opponent knocks first).

IPlay's gin only has one setting and that is for 100 point games. If we play Gin only, regular gin, or Oklahoma style, we have to note the game ourselves. Also, with IPlay, the first upcard is not automatically displayed. Each player in turn, starting with the "South" player, has to make the initial discard. There is no option to "pass" the initial upcard as is the case with other sites and with regular Gin rules.

While some may see this as a drawback to our site, there are some things we can do that other sites cannot. Among those things are the ability to play matches where a player can only meld sets or runs. In such games, it allows the ability to have 3 aces and use them all for your deadwood while melding your runs. It's all a matter of getting used to how the software works. The unique features of IPlay Gin make for strategy that one doesn't get to use on another site.

As for players in the Gin Ladder Room to play open games, it is true that getting a regular ladder match is easier said than done sometimes. But, it can be done. The frequency is something that as part of the Op team on this ladder we would like to see improved. I'm sure given time it will. Thanks for your comments!
