CASES 101

INSTALLMENT 3. Ethical Issues

So we're all a bunch-o controversy addicts...
Don't we have a moral duty and ethical responsibility
to reform the social misfits and resolve conflicts?

Answer: NO.

10 Reasons why not:

1. You can't fix someone. Even they will tell you "I am what I am".
- - and they are right.

2. If you could do the impossible and reform them, there are plenty
more where they came from ready to take their place.

3. The person who does not want a "Win-Win" situation is exactly
right when they say that it is not in their intrest to agree. For them,
it is a matter of principle and proving that they are right. This holds more
value than any compromise which may be percieved as them admitting
that they are wrong. Their primary objective is to prove that their opinion
is correct, and everyone else is wrong. Ladder position is secondary.

4. When a person refuses to listen to reason, then he has made his choice.
Only he can change his mind and decide to agree to your idea instead of his.

5. If a person's life depends on winning games and their ladder position,
that is not your problem. It is theirs.

6. This site is devoted to people who thrive in adversarial situations.
It is so much easier to go to play at a less controversial site than to try to
reform the idiots here.

7. If a successful campaign were launched that solved all controversies,
then I predict that most of the more dynamic and colorful players will
leave this site, only to find another site that has a little more challenge to it.

8. There is room for everyone in Cases Worldplay ladder... from the
players in the middle of the ladder, to the top,... from the sophisticated
dignitaries to the homeless campers,... from the well-adjusted to the wing-nuts.
What purpose does it serve to remove the most entertaining activities
from our midst?

9. If we solved all controversies and everyone was always nice to each
other, then Cases would have less traffic looking at their ads. People
would start leaving and the ladder would begin to lose support from Cases...
Eventually it would become like many of the other Cases backgammon
ladders with no members. BTW - these ladders without players are the
final expression of conflict resolution.. The ultimate destination of
"Win-Win" nirvana... no more conflicts whatsoever..!

10. Your local minister / priest / rabbi would rather have you resolve problems
in your own community than at some website that he never heard of.
