: It will come as no surprise to some of you that Class Clown and Village Idiot are monikers I wear well.

: The year was 1984 : I had convalesced my father at home before he passed in July and I found out I was pregnant in August. This was my first experience of the whole 'first year' phenomena. The first Father's Day without, the first birthday without, the first Christmas without etc. etc. etc. (said in my best Yul Brynner voice)

: My OBGYN appointment in December did not go well. On arrival my dr. asked how I was at which point I burst into tears. He exclaimed Oh dear!!, we better get you off to the shrink. At that point I became inconsolable because my worst nightmare had just been confirmed. This mad woman was about to give birth to a child. Seriously, how was I to know that there is a grieving process and another process you go through while you are pregnant and planning for your first born and that the 2 of them don't mix well.

: T'was the night before Christmas and although not religious nor a traditionalist by any means, I had talked my husband into going to the Midnight Mass at the local church. I just wanted to hear the voices on high, the hymns etc. all the while hoping they had those song sheet thingies so I wouldn't muff the words.

: There was a knock on the door and my brother Steve (Stephen) arrived unexpectedly to introduce us to his new girlfriend. I served them a couple of drinks and nibblies and enquired as to whether they had other plans for that night being Christmas Eve and all and they advised they had no other plans.

: So, I decided to include them in our plans for the Midnight Mass. Of course, I have been known to drop the odd spoonerism, quite by accident but at the funnies of times. I invited them to join us for the ..... yes... wait for it... the .. Madnight Miss. We all fell about the floor crying with laughter, our sides were hurting and for the next hour, one of us would just start giggling at my absurdity.

: And so it came pass that from that day forth, my Christmas nickname was Madnight Miss.

: My brother Steve passed in 2016 from Lou Gehrig's disease (Motor Neuron Disease here) and I will be spending Christmas Day with the woman he brought to our door that night and no doubt we will be sharing the laughs about that night.
