Hey you firewall scrabble playing techies...I attempted recently to install ZoneAlarm Pro onto my work station. Although I had great success configuring it for the myriad of programs running on my machine it did not co-exist properly with Scrabble. I discovered during my trials that when starting Scrabble it would lock during the graphics initialization phase with multiple screen artifacts and nothing intelligible to be seen! A perusal of the ZoneAlarm log file indicates that ZoneAlarm is blocking the access from Scrabble to my next upstream router. I have specifically configured ZoneAlarm to not block this communication, furthermore, I have configured ZoneAlarm to not block any communication to or from the Scrabble program. It appears to block it anyway!
A Sniffer trace of the resulting underlying communication shows that the data link layer (that would be layer 2 on the OSI protocol stack) is functioning properly. This is either a layer 3 or 4 issue. I don't believe Winsock is the culprit although I'm not ruling out that possibility.
Have any of you seen such behavior and if so do you have a cure? Please Help!!
