Hi *** and *****,

I have given this a lot of thought over the past week since yahoo threw this at us. I know you remember former breakups of Ladders on different sites that we on Staff have been part of over the last 15 years. I hate to see this happen to the Pinochle Ladders. Just allowing members to transfer their accounts to other ladders, mostly newly formed on other sites breaks up another long established community. And you know from past experience, that once that breakup occurs, it is almost moot that the newer ladders either fail or are just a shadow of their former activity. I know we have not had much time to react here and choices are limited, but I would like to see if we can slow things down a bit. Most of the other affected ladders have some free choices, for example, gin has a free option with Gaming Safari, and games like cribbage, euchre, and pool can actually play free on POGO and some other sites. Pinochle has much fewer choices.

I don't really believe that Yahoo is going to bring back Pinochle in any form that the ladder members would be happy playing, or could play, or that the game will be one of their choices to retool in the first place.

My thinking is this, no transfers at this time, let's let the ladder stay intact, use their same main Case page just like they do now, with everything intact, rules, standings, reporting, forum, etc. and just let them play elsewhere. I have changed the purge limit to 6 months so that gives everyone not able to play a breathing space. We could have them play on POGO for a month and see how things go. Others who don't wish to pay for POGO could join free sites as new members with their stats on pinochle intact and may find something better for the Ladder to consider. Gaming Safari may come through with programming for free pinochle, as they are one of the few sites willing to at least talk to us and consider programming the game. Also by that time we may know what Yahoo is actually going to do. Members who may not choose the annual membership on POGO would have a chance to purchase a shorter Club Membership, either at 5.99 for a month, or 14.99 for 3 months, maybe more budgetable for some of the members. All this does is give us some time, before we just loose another great ladder community. If things don't work out with any of this, the transfer account could still be the option in the future.

My thinking, Jen
