My better-half's name was Doc Lavinder. He had Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, and had used a wheelchair since age 2. He was told all of his life that he would never be able to drive, but he not only drove, he drag-raced (a 1935 Nash he named the Severely Disabled Chicken Coupe) and we promoted the Ability in Disability. At the Drag-strip, I was known as Doc Lav's Lady. After his death, in 1997, I got a computer and started playing spades. I kept my "drag-strip name" and shortened it to lavslady. I have been playing spades for many years, in many leagues, but I am always lavslady. Check out the memorial page I made for him, many years ago at the link below. (There have been many changes since then, but I don't know how to make changes to the site.) The race-car is now being cared for and shown by High School Automotive students at Silverton High School, in Silverton, Oregon.
