I don't think that they are talking of creating a new ladder, just renaming this one.
It makes sense, any old player returning after a long break would try to go to the Zone lobby first for a game and , finding that closed, would probably come here to find out what had happened.
If the ladder is renamed the 'Gamespy Ladder' it would give them a king sized hint.
