Game 4... the erratic fisherman.
He opens with MOPED. I hold BROMOUS*, which I am 90% confident is a word, and am ready to curse my luck at his playing an unhookable word... but then realized MOPED is also a noun. Down went BROMOUS*, and he lets it go. He's saving up for something... I'm not going to stand around and watch. I hung JURIES out to dry for 49, dangling the J in the TWS lane. He takes tREATING for 77. I have a relatively well balanced rack that somehow cannot make a 4 letter J word. I have a 22 point play that will mostly block it and offer as good a leave there is, so I take it. He has a 40-pt X play, then exchanges. After 10, I'm up 230-265. Not very comfortable. He plays a 6-pt. hook (TIN), which allows me EARNEST. I'm almost 100 points up, but he has the other blank too now and I'm eating a U-less Q.
I fry remaining bingo lanes, win 426-357.
Bad tourney all around for the fisherman.

5th game... Derek B, his 3rd tournament.
Opening rack AADOVWW seemed to insist on AVOW. He bingoed first in the 5th turn with something so mundane I didn't write it down, following that up with a 32 pointer, I match it with 36.
Now I'm down by 45. He tries GARGLY* on me for 39... I don't have a very good rack, and I may be out of it if I allow him a 39 point phony that clears his rack. I challenge it off.
The best scoring/rack clearing play I see is RUNIC, which hangs a C into a TWS lane. Remembering he has RAGGY on his rack... therefore an easy CRAGGY play for 39... I desist, and dump CURE to an E.
After 9, I'm down by 30, and have drawn SOUNDER/RESOUND. The board is closed tight. He provides a hook, though... for something beginning with a vowel other than U. So forget UNDOERS. After a moment I remember ENDUROS, and have a lead (he plays off an I for 4 points).
There are still bingo possibilities in the bottom right... which I'm far from being able to use... so I take 40 points elsewhere.
A careful 16 point dump play from him preserves the hooks.
A 30 point parallel play of LAP from me... I remember being shocked at how effective this was... destroyed the two remaining lanes at once.
Ended 388-325 for me.

Game 7: Eugenio N.
I drew everything but the J in this one... but mostly in concert with VIRRI-type accompaniment.
He bingos first, with ENTAILED, which only leaves us even after 6.
My next turn is POETiZES.
He actually erodes that 61 point lead, but I survive at 425-374.

Game 8: Will VK.
Horrible vowel-laden exchanges for him early. I was clogged with endless consonants.
We crept to the 10th turn at 170-128 in my favor.
I finally cashed in with SPUMIER, and sealed the board shut. 434-255, thanks to his losing 20 points on the clock.

At the end of the 8 games...
I drew 22 QZXJ to opponent's 10 (can that be right???)
17 S's to opponent's 15
and 10 S's to opponent's 6.
All I can say is... after Calgary (notably being outblanked 8-26 by opponents), I had a little luck owed to me.
