First game, strong nontourney player...
He opens with FIE. I take cheap CAMERAE. He replies with DOSSIER. There are now hot spots everywhere you look, and I hold QX? among my tiles. The O in DOSSIER gives me an easy 52 XI play.
He takes CREW for 27, I hold ABDEQ??. Even with two blanks, there are no 7's or 8's possible. I take BARQuE for 51, he takes JANE 33. Now ABDNOS? rack. I first see BONDSMAN thru the CAMERAE M... but the BARQUES hook is too juicy to overlook. BANDOgS for 91. (ABOUNDS and ROBANDS would hook there also). He challenges unsuccessfully. I dump GRIOT for 28, hooking OXO and SIT... mostly to eliminate that easy hot spot.
In the 9th turn I hold POLYMER, but it won't play... nor will EMPLOYER/REEMPLOY. An O is already sitting in a TWS lane, so POLYMER for 54 will do.
After 10, I'm up 241-449.
Thru the CAMERAE M, he has VACUUMED. I play HOCK thru his C for 34.
Ends 371-504 for me.
2nd game, vs Dave, newly sporting a 1725 rating...
I get TORPEDO in 2nd turn, he exchanges 5 in the 5th turn.
In turn 6 I burn my first S in TZURIS, 58.
Turn 7 gives him UINTAItE.
Turn 9 gives him MANDALaS.
Turn 10, JOUAL for 39... and a 329-291 point lead for him. Having seen only the one S to this point, I figure I'm doing better than I should be. 2 S's are still unseen. That JOUALS hook should be blocked, but I can't get more than 18 points for doing so. I hold the last E... so I take C(RE)PE hooking EQUID for 26. Emptying the bag, I get the last S. He takes JOUALS hook.
Ends 365-378 for him.
3rd game, Richard C, 1418, the erratic fisherman.
I open by exchanging CF from CFAINSS rack, and drawing AI.
He exchanges also. From AAIINSS I open with INIA. After 4 turns... wow, 44-51 for him.
Then I play TESTIER/SHOVEL, which effectively blocked all other 7's. He takes 33 for REKEY.
I hold AEILNPT. I don't see PANTILE (altho I am familiar with it)... I search for PALATINE, TINPLATE... then realize PETALINE or TAPELINE is available thru his REKEY. So I take TAPELINE.
AFter 10, I'm up 309-241 (he just played NOVICEs).
That sets up HANSE for 51 on the triple. He holds, doesn't challenge.
I draw the remaining blank, with EEGNRU?. I see 2 of the 3 7's (UNEAGER, GERENUK), and REBEGUN doesn't occur to me. Only 7 hook is onto the end of BEL, and none of these do it.
I dump EG as ENG for 8, and leave one in the bag. I bingo out on the triple with FORTUNEs. 478-321.
Now the only lady available to play decides to sit out, so I do too.
I want to get a 4th game in, so I wait for the first finishers and we rip thru a fast one...
She gets BOSSIER in 3rd turn. I take OSTRACA in the 4th, and TAPERING later.
After 10, she's 322, I'm 346.
She takes 21... 343 to my 346. I see she has 5 left, tracking is accurate despite the rushed game, and shows her with PEEIV. She can't play out, that's enough for me, I don't bother examining the board for her potential plays. I take YOD/JO for 24, and a 27 point lead.
Oops...
She has VEEP/BE/UP for 39.
I hold FOOTS. Best I can find is SOFT/STYE for 18. She's out with 7 points, plus 2, she wins 391-388.
That's ok, I knew I'd have blocked VEEP if it weren't a late club game I was hurrying to finish.
I adjudicated a challenge on OUTWISH. It's acceptable; "to surpass in wishing". Exactly how does one do that? Wish harder? Wish for more stuff?
Dave H, after his bingos of UINTAITE and MANDALAS against me, had two bingos against Richard: TESSIER* and ORGANIE*. Both accepted by Richard. Man, why can't Dave try stuff like that on me????
