I can think of at least 3 solutions to your problem.
1. Slide a piece of paper between mouse and pad, then you are free to either slide on the paper or slide the paper and mouse to the right side of the pad then remove the paper.
2. Remove the mouse pad completely.
3. Hold mouse still and rotate the pad under the mouse until most of the pad is on the left side.
See it pays to stay is skool all the way to the 8th grade :)
