NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO !!!!!!!!!!!
Changing the rules is not the answer to the problem.
Common sense should be used here.
There is no need to have players playing each other multiple times. This has been proposed several times in the past and has ALWAYS been turned down.
This is likely the oldest active ladder remaining for Cases. Why uproot it's legacy and history because people have other things to do besides play cribbage at this time.
Summer has come to a close and per usual people will be back to play a lot more soon.
Regarding the #1 vs #2 spot match and #3 and #4 not being able to play them until the match is played should not be touched. A great way to keep #1 for as long as you want, just never play #2.
If #1 and #2 can't play for WHATEVER reason, one of them if not both should get a swift penalty and not the weak #*^penalty of being dropped to #25. Drop them back to the absolute bottom of the ladder. This goes for those that want a VRR as well. Most times people take a VRR to avoid a penalty. Why should this be allowed.
It actually would be a little more challenging to get back up the ladder and guess what happens, they likely play more to get back up there. Make them EARN it rather than a slap on the wrist.
Look I may not be active as I once was but I still hold this ladder dear to my heart. I recall the beta testing I did with Case and Abigail before this ladder went live. There is a lot of history for me with this ladder and the heck if I am going to see it get wrecked because people don't know how to get ranked matches or because they don't plan ahead.
If you really want to do something to help this ladder this is what needs done.
1. Having an op present regularly and not once in a blue moon solves almost everything.
Being proactive rather than reactive can avoid many perceived issues.
2. Market this ladder. When is the last time a letter went out to all members on this ladder or any other ladder telling the players where we play, we are still going at it and we want you back????? When I had a myleague ladder this was effective. If you aren't reaching out to your player base, they aren't going to come back. Maybe somebody says oh my god, I totally forgot about that ladder or they come from another ladder to join ours.
Growth is key.
3. Stop fn around with the ladder. Leave it be, let it run without rule changes, however enforce the rules and give real penalties not the slap on the hand penalties as you do now.
4. Back to the ops, they should be cultivating and advocating for the ladder. Meaning they should be seen, interacting with players and promoting the ladder.
If and only if the above is done will the ladder slowly grow again.
If you think we will ever get back to the Zone level of games played and members you would be mistaken. Enjoy what you have here and leave well enough alone.
