I am her daughter posting this from our forum to yours. This was posted by her friend Cath. My name is PoisonFreeU.

Diane (_bag_hag_) had gastric bypass surgery this Tuesday morning. This is the surgery we have to help us lose weight for health reasons.

Gastric Bypass surgery is not without risks.

We know that going in.

BUT

We are WILLING to take that risk to have a *normal* life again.

We are WILLING to take that risk to be treated *normally* again, not looked on with disdain because of our size.

We are WILLING to take that risk to be able to *fit* in spaces where we weren't able to fit before.

We are WILLING to take that risk to prolong our lives.

My Mother died 4 years ago from complications of morbid obesity... if this surgery had been available to her then, she would be with us today.

Nicking (perforating) an organ is one of the risks that we are made aware of up front. This is something that is a risk on ANY invasive surgery.

One of the dangers of nicking the intestine is infection (peritonitis).

The water weight gain is normal after this type invasion surgery but it will subside.

Diane told me on the way to the hospital Tuesday morning that IF it was her *time*, it would be by a mack truck or at the hands of a surgeon - BUT - the Good Lord would choose that time.

She asked the ICU nurse to tell us as she was being wheeled into surgery last night to remind her family that she had this surgery for her grandbabies. To be able to LIVE to see them grow up.

She is a fighter & that is CRITICAL to her recovery.

Diane's surgeon, Dr David Provost is one of the TOP bariatric surgeons in the nation.

University of Texas Southwestern is the campus that Zale Lipshy Hospital is associated with... this is a *teaching hospital*.

She is getting the VERY best care possible.

She won't be able to use a computer for a while as she is expected to be in ICU for 2-3 weeks possibly.
She can't have flowers in ICU.
She is sedated & expected to be on a ventilator for up to a week.

At this point, the best thing we can do is to PRAY & send her a card that will be waiting for her when she wakes up (this could be up to a week or longer).
